A Full Range of Denture Options to Restore Your Oral Function
Missing teeth can keep you from eating, speaking, and smiling with confidence. With skill and many years of experience, Dr. Scott A. Emalfarb can fit you with custom dentures. Your comfortable, lifelike prosthetic will restore form and function to your smile so that you can enjoy life to its fullest. At Lake View Dental Associates, we offer a full range of restorative options, including full and partial traditional prosthetics, as well as implant-supported dentures. During your dentures consultation at our Chicago, IL, practice we will determine which denture type is right for your health needs, cosmetic goal, and budget.
Types of Dentures
At Lake View Dental Associates, we proudly offer four types of dentures. All restorations are carefully crafted for a realistic appearance and comfortable fit. We will discuss the following restoration types with you during your consultation:
- Traditional full dentures: A traditional full denture will replace all of your top and/or bottom teeth. This type of prosthetic is removable, with a plastic base that will fit on your gums. For further stability, you can also use a small dab of denture adhesive.
- Traditional partial dentures: A partial denture may be appropriate if you still have some healthy teeth, but you have large gaps in your smile. Like a full denture, a traditional partial is removable. A carefully fitted plastic base and small metal clasps will keep it in place.
- Implant-supported full dentures: Implant-supported dentures are permanent, and they offer greater stability than traditional removable restorations. This type of prosthetic will attach to four or more dental implants, which will fuse with your jawbone to replace your tooth roots.
- Implant-supported partial dentures: An implant-supported partial is also permanent. It will attach to two or more dental implant posts, depending on the number of teeth you are missing and the size of your restoration.
Planning and Fitting Your Prosthetic
A properly fitted denture will restore your oral function, smile, and confidence. Dr. Emalfarb will work meticulously when designing your restoration. He will take impressions of your gums and photos of your original teeth. This data will be sent to our partner lab, where ceramists will craft your prosthetic. Not only will they make sure that it fits comfortably and securely, but they will also consider the aesthetics of your denture.
With your new dentures, you may be able to eat a much broader diet than you could before you received your prosthetic. Dentures can also improve your long-term oral health.
For the base, they will choose a color of plastic that matches the shade of your gums. The replacement teeth will be made from a high-quality material with a natural color and sparkle. Finally, your treatment team will consider the overall look of your face, making sure that your denture fits and blends with your lips and cheeks.
If you choose an implant-supported denture, Dr. Emalfarb will refer you to an oral surgeon for implant placement. After your implant surgery, we can provide a temporary restoration. While you are waiting for your jawbone to heal, the lab will create your restoration. The technicians will use similar techniques to ensure that your prosthetic matches your overall appearance.
The Benefits of Dentures
Our carefully-crafted dentures can restore your ability to eat, speak, laugh, and smile. With your new dentures, you may be able to eat a much broader diet than you could before you received your prosthetic. You may also enjoy a healthier sense of self-confidence.
Dentures can also improve your long-term oral health. Both removable and implant-supported partials help to maintain dental alignment by keeping your other teeth from shifting out of position. Implant-supported dentures also prevent jaw bone recession, since the implant posts serve as new tooth roots, and send regenerative signals to the surrounding bone tissue.
